How Dental Veneers Can Benefit You

Your smile is an important feature on your face. When you do not smile because you are embarrassed about your teeth, people will think you are mad or upset all the time. But, there is something you can do. If you are not happy with the way your teeth look, you can visit a cosmetic dentist and work together to find a solution, so you can smile again.

What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are sometimes called porcelain veneers, or just simply veneers. These veneers are wafer thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to your teeth to change the color, shape, and/or size of the teeth in your mouth.

Who Would Benefit From Veneers?
Many people can benefit from having veneers placed on their teeth:
• Anyone who has discolored teeth. The discoloration may be from excess fluoride treatments, medications, food and drink, fillings that have discolored over time, or any other reason.
• Anyone with chipped or broken teeth from any source
• Anyone with teeth that are worn down
• Anyone who has teeth that are misshapen or have dents or ridges in them
• Anyone with gaps between teeth

How Are Veneers Put In?
You will first need to consult with your cosmetic dentist to determine the look you are hoping to achieve. Together, you and the dentist will work out a plan. Next, the dentist will shave about 0.5 millimeter off of the enamel of the tooth or teeth to receive the veneers. An impression will be taken of your tooth or teeth.

That impression will be used to make your veneers. The veneers will be made at a dental laboratory and can take several weeks, depending on the lab. Once the veneers are ready, your dentist will fit them and bond them to your teeth with permanent cement.

Your dental veneers will look very natural in your mouth to provide you with a beautiful smile. The veneers can last for 10 years or more before needing to be replaced. The porcelain is stain resistant and blends in well with other teeth. Call your dentist today to discuss how veneers can benefit you.
